Colorado Springs Realtors

Selley Group – Energy Efficiency

Cherise Selley August 10th, 2009

By all indications, according to the National Association of Realtors, green is the coming trend of future real estate.

In a feature story from the RCA Report, it’s quite evident that Corporate America has wrapped its mind around the construct of green, as financial and altruistic benefits have not gone unnoticed.

Considerable momentum is gaining according to a 2008 study by Greener Buildings.  The report states, “The number of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified new and existing buildings more than double in a two-year period.  As of April of 2009, 2,488 commercial projects had been certified under LEED ratings system and 19,524 projects were registered with the intent of obtaining certification when completed.”

A case study of going green in Evergreen, Colorado was mentioned.  Challenges included structured parking versus surface parking, 100 percent storm water retention and photovoltaic array of rooftop solar panels.

Once I perused the entire report, I felt the need to become educated about green and how this trend will eventually impact the Colorado Springs Real Estate market.

In order to see things beyond who we are, we must acquire more knowledge.  Colorado Springs Realtors can attain NAR’s Green Designation, which requires a Colorado Springs Realtor to complete a 12-hour core course plus a six-hour elective in either commercial, residential, or property management.
