Selley Group – Who’s buying Homes?

Cherise Selley February 16th, 2010

Colorado Springs Realtors, as well as you, are well aware of the financial and time constraints that will soon face the first-time homebuyer and the motivated seller who fit the federal tax credit option.

While there’s debate about the effectiveness of the tax credit for both the first-time homebuyer and the qualified seller, the Buyer’s Rep, a publication of the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council, Inc., showcases some interesting facts from a recent NAR survey.

The results are as follows:

· 47% of recent home buyers were first-time buyers.

· 21% of recent home buyers were single females, and 10% were single males.

· New home purchases were at the lowest level in eight years – down to 18% of all recent home purchases.

· When considering the purchase of a home, commuting costs were considered very or somewhat important by 78% of buyers.

As a Colorado Springs Realtor who studies market data and considers any relevant material when performing Colorado Springs Real Estate services, I’m thankful for the work that the National Association of Realtors is doing for this profession.
