While it’s easy to criticize our national politicians as playing the partisanship card, we, as Colorado Springs Realtors need to beware of real estate partisanship.

Do we as Colorado Springs Realtors, or Realtors, want to do the same thing as our Republican and Democratic officials are doing as this relates to how we influence and believe the direction of real estate should go in the future? Are we going to break the system which has granted a great career for many? For me, I don’t want the real estate profession to end up like Washington D.C.

On one side of the aisle, the mood is tender about new technologies and the way business is conducted these days. In fact, I had an older woman, who has been a Colorado Springs Realtor for many years, struggle mightily with corresponding emails with me regarding a contract, let alone trying to do e-contracts. While this can certainly be frustrating, I felt compassion for her. In no way, would I consider embarrassing her or portraying to her client that she was out of tune with today’s Colorado Springs Real Estate climate. Just the opposite, I’ve been more gracious and accommodating to help all parties to get this deal closed. By offering patience, there’s a better chance that this Realtor will not feel so intimidated to learn some new technologies.

And on the other side, the feeling is frenzied with fast-beating, hard-tapping on the keyboards or on the screens of i-phones to try to keep up with the ongoing changes with social marketing. Sometimes this illusion of marketing grandeur leads to arrogance and laziness with practical follow-up with the client. Conversions go far beyond the idea of automated responses and/or sales-scripted phone calls.

In order to have bipartisanship amongst Realtors, in light of all the governmental and economic changes that are occurring, it’s imperative that we listen to each others’ voices in this profession, and we make extraordinary attempts to help each other more productively as a community.

Political competition has certainly led to much bitterness between our nation’s leadership and the people of the United States. It has deeply divided our thoughts, philosophies, beliefs and worldviews. I don’t think this would be productive for the real estate industry.

As for me, I’d like my voice to be heard, but only, after I’ve listened to others, even those who are out of touch with technology, to express themselves and their ideas. After all, there is enough business to go around for every Realtor. We don’t have to pick apart how we do things, nor do we have to attack the integrity of other Realtors, as we’re seeing done on the political landscape of D.C.
