Thoughts for those who are entangled with the challenges of life…
With your own eyes, your own senses, your own beliefs and from your own experiences, real life transformation has to become real for you. It has to become life-changing. And it has to pass your own sniff test to discern its authenticity. My husband is a classic example of undergoing real life transformation, which is good for this blog – to let those who are downtrodden to know that hope is on the horizon. It’s awaiting your participation!
For thirteen years, Gordon had already endured the topsy-turvy ride of utter despair after sustaining severe auto injuries and subsequently, having to undergo four neck surgeries. For him, it felt like a tsunami had mercilessly pounded his life, leaving very little for him, from which to start over.
He was left with nasty residuals of neuropathic pain – not the kind of pain like stubbing your toe, or burning your finger, but something far more invasive – the kind of pain that tests not only your physical tolerance, but also, your psychological ability to cope. After the injurious-producing storms had passed, Gordon stood alone. Holding on to nothingness and squeezing it tightly, Gordon was hoping to get something of value back from the horrendous trials he had undergone. Instead, he experienced the fear of losing everything. My husband lost his professional career, his material means, his workouts, his self-worth…his life!
Gordon had endured chronic pain and its devastating effects by losing motivation and gaining pounds – many extra sizes I might add. His life was a train wreck until he came to the end of himself. In a nutshell, Gordon entered the seminary of suffering – he went deeper with his pain – deeper with God – and discovered grace, strength, and new life as a result. In the end, my husband conquered his weight and has kept it off for four years, as well as his fears and adapted his ways of living only after he had changed his entire perspective on life.
Truly, his life is the epitome of faith and the manifestation of physical change as a result of his beliefs.
Remember, your ideal path, no matter the limitations, usually begins in the place of brokenness before heading into the direction of freedom and ineffable peace. To walk powerfully, to shed old habits for new practices and to experience true life, in essence, you have to become a willing participant to overcome your own set of obstacles.
