This just in! In a Selley Group EXCLUSIVE, JJ—the Wonder from Down Under—was spotted at Garden of the Gods Club, hamming it up with his family. Here at the Selley Group, we work tirelessly to bring you the best, the latest, the greatest entertainment news and we’ve obtained an exclusive interview. With JJ.

SG: Why are you in Colorado Springs?

JJ: Well, I have family here. You may have seen my latest TMZ interview and I talked about this at length there. I recently made an appearance on The Tonight Show and reiterate this with Jimmy Fallon, also. Family is the most important thing in my life. Behind Spiderman, and dressing to the 9’s, family is it. My career, you know, is pretty important too.

SG: What projects do you have in the works for 2020?

JJ: Besides being ridiculously entertaining, I plan on having many deep conversations with G-Daddy. There might also be a film or two in the near future, but I’m under an NDA with the studios to not discuss things further.

SG: What else do you plan on doing while you’re in Colorado Springs?

JJ: I’m taking a break from my busy schedule, opening sports events and hosting awards shows, to really focus on the finer things, the most important things. I’ve been taking lots of naps in the tent G-Daddy set up for me in the basement, and climbing on the JJ-sized rock-wall installed for me too. I also have lots of toys to play with. Lots of toys. Christmas was very kind to me and I’m so very grateful for all your gifts, and of course your love and support.

SG: Spiderman isn’t in there somewhere?

JJ: Oh, of course. That was just assumed. I’ll be pretending I’m Spiderman quite a bit as well. That, and making the world a better place.

SG: Well thank you for taking the time to speak with us, JJ. Safe travels and we wish you the best of luck with everything—especially making the world a better place.

JJ: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And my people will get in touch with your people about that video we were talking about earlier.

SG: This video?

JJ: YES! That’s the one!

The year is ending and it’s a time of reflection here for us at Selley Group TV. There’s snow on the ground, the days are short, the nights long and cold and most folks are preparing for the holidays. For us, it’s a welcome time of year, but also potentially an intense and even stressful one too. We took a break this week from the business and from our holiday prep to look back on some of our best moments in 2019 (and also to play in the snow a bit). When we launched Selley Group TV earlier we didn’t know how far it’d go — or just how much fun we’d have.

We wanted this video channel to be informative, of course — providing quality tips and real estate experiences to people in Colorado Springs who might be interested in buying or selling real estate, or interested in a custom home, or in interior design, whatever … but we also wanted our channel to be a little different, and reflective of who we really are here and how we do business. The truth is that we work hard and long hours sometimes, but we also take the time to stop and to have fun. Really, we have fun. We’ve learned in our decades of practicing real estate in Colorado Springs, that sometimes if you can’t have fun doing it, it just isn’t worth it. Life is too short.

We’re extraordinarily grateful for all of you. Without our clients, we’re nothing, and thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for inviting us into your lives and into your real estate transactions — which many of you know can be some of the most monumental, meaningful, and memorable of the year. Here’s wishing you and your loved ones an exceptional 2020 full of life and love. And Happy Holidays from all of us at Selley Group TV!

The Peak Producers Christmas Party 2019

The 2019 Peak Producers Christmas Party was memorable, both for the top Colorado Springs Realtors who are members of the Peak Producers, as well as the partner community organizations for the year – Springs Rescue Mission (represented by Cindy Johnson) and Dream Centers – Mary’s Home (represented by Yvette Maher). The theme for the entire year has been “Contagious Generosity” — inspiring charitable giving in Colorado Springs.

Cherise Selley, who is the 2019 President of the Peak Producers and one of the members who has been there from the beginning, expounded upon their 10-year history, as well as the organization’s charitable efforts during their “Contagious Generosity” campaign — Giving in Colorado Springs.

Since the inception of Peak Producers in 2009 by Bill McAfee (President of Empire Title Company), the organization has gone through its growth spurts regarding membership size, changing real estate markets, and finding its sweet spot about getting more integrated within the needs of the local Colorado Springs community.

Each year Peak Producers selects a nonprofit organization to connect with financially, as well as to participate with voluntarily. Albeit, Peak Producers has developed a heart to remain connected with the Springs Rescue Mission for the past five years. What’s transpired from this business relationship goes far beyond the typical. For instance, the New Life Work Program was developed to help those who have battled addiction and homelessness. And amazingly, this group of top Colorado Springs Realtors has remained committed to the Springs Rescue Mission every inch of the way.

The Christmas Party included food, drinks, music, cheers, comradely among Colorado Springs Realtors and listening to Marlon Ashford, who was part of the New Life Work Program at the Springs Rescue Mission. Literally walking to Colorado Springs from Canada over 80 days and then living on the streets, Marlon’s riveting story is one of remarkable transformation. Now he is clean of drug addiction and has re-discovered his love of cooking, as he is employed as a Sous-Chef at one of our local hotels/resorts. The New Life Work Program and the help of Peak Producers offered him that “hands-up” help to get a clean slate about living his life. Now he is very involved with helping others to overcome addiction and to achieve successful, independent living.

As Cherise Selley spoke from the podium, she pointed out that her greatest observation as a leader regarding the success of the Peak Producers over the years is that this organization of top business people has grown in love towards fellow agents from different brokerages, and that this love has overflowed into the Colorado Springs community. Cherise commented further, “Our identity has been formed by using our influence and prosperity to make this city better.”

The event was sparked by an unspoken enthusiasm about how much money was actually raised during the “Contagious Generosity” campaign. The goal was lofty … $100,000 to be exact, which was nearly $40,000 higher than the previous amount raised in 2018. Nonetheless, Cherise Selley , as well as other board members, believed that Peak Producers needed to set a goal that was bigger than they currently imagined. They purported that the bigger you believe, then the bigger the reward that will be achieved for all involved, especially for those who need some assistance to get back on their feet. So, the mark of $100,000 was set for 2019.

The Christmas Party spiraled upwards with celebration when the final tallies about their fundraising efforts were announced by Mike MacGuire, Board Member and 2018 Past President of Peak Producers. Not only did the Peak Producers reach the $100,000 mark, but they smashed that goal by raising $126,000 … and more checks are coming by the end of the year.

Collectively, the room filled with top agents from different companies had come together to celebrate their spirit of unity, as well as how these monies will help both the Springs Rescue Mission and the Dream Centers – Mary’s Home. Part of this goal-smashing event included Bill McAfee, President of Empire Title Company, who wore high-heel disco shoes to mark the surpassing of the $120,000 mark. What fun to see him stick by his word by doing an absurd imitation of his moon-walk because Peak Producers generously raised these kinds of dollars for the two organizations represented this evening.

To close the Christmas event as everyone was mingling, Cherise Selley inspired the group regarding the upcoming 2020 year and further giving in Colorado Springs. And quoting from John Wesley, she said, “Earn all you can. Save all you can. Give all you can.”

Merry Christmas!

For this Thanksgiving, we decided to shift gears from presenting the inside scoop of Colorado Springs Real Estate to sharing our hearts about giving back generously to our local Colorado Springs community and to talk about something special—truly new life in Colorado Springs.

This particular video will give you just a glimpse into our philanthropic participation with the Springs Rescue Mission. Cherise Selley, the 2019 President of Peak Producers, sits down with Marlon Ashford, a recent participant of the New Life Work Program, to discuss his personal testimony and how he tangibly benefited from being part of this restorative curriculum.

After sustaining a shoulder injury while playing college baseball, Marlon explains that he basically became addicted to pain medication, specifically opioids, to try to ameliorate his pain-producing injury. Without success, Marlon then turned to drug usage of crack cocaine and found his life to become hopeless in the world of addiction, especially after his mother had passed when he had turned 38 years of age. His story is lengthy, being full of challenges and experiencing the depths of despair. It’s easy to become absolutely nothing when you’re walking down the wrong path of life and also finding yourself diving out of a rapidly traveling (60 mph) vehicle to avoid being killed by a drug dealer. But for Marlon, after recovering from these injuries somewhat, he then started on his new journey, walking… that’s right… literally walking from Canada and throughout the United States before landing in Colorado Springs.

This is when he felt directed by God to become part of the New Life Work Program, which essentially, is a strict curriculum to help to get people off of drug addiction and to place them back into the work force. We call it, a “hands-up” program because all of us have gone through some overwhelming difficulties in life and require someone else to lend a helping hand.

Tangibly-speaking, Marlon explains that the New Life Work Program has significantly helped him to regain his love for cooking. And he is now employed as a Sous-chef at a local hotel/resort. Marlon continues to thrive among Colorado Springs, as he assists with the Springs Rescue Mission, and helps other endeavors with his skilled cooking abilities.

Marlon no longer has to walk long distances to live out his purpose. Peak Producers provided a vehicle for his transportation. And besides being very grateful for this, Marlon has expressed that his passion is now realized, as he can give outwardly towards others because of how the Springs Rescue Mission gave inwardly into him.

For this last quarter of 2019, if you’re looking for a worthy cause to sow (donate) into, then please consider either the Springs Rescue Mission and/or Dream Centers – Mary’s Home for this holiday season. We certainly hope you gleaned something inspirational from this video, and if you have additional questions, then please do not hesitate to give us a call … 719-332-4511.

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Again … real estate stories happen because of the real estate choices each of one of us chooses to make. Cherise Selley, a top Colorado Springs Realtor, sits down to discuss two aspects of her own journey regarding real estate investing — investing in an Airbnb and paying off her primary residence.

Without scrutiny against other proposed wealth-building strategies, Cherise believes in several different financial methodologies, whether long-term or short-term, when it comes to making a prudent real estate investment. And understandably, Cherise Selley fully understands the wealth-building concepts of never fully paying off the mortgage of your primary residence in order to gain overall wealth. Yet, for this video clip, in which she transparently shares the course of her personal financial path, Cherise and her husband chose to pay off their residence in order to have more freedom to fully invest into her real estate business (Selley Group Real Estate, LLC), as well as to divert additional funds into other real estate investments (investing in an Airbnb) and philanthropic endeavors.

The basic financial strategy that they devised is a 3-part generalized structure. First, it was important for Cherise Selley to glean debt-free living, which by the way, has been a long journey of discipline and hard work and is an ongoing, present-day undertaking. Part of this approach included the full payoff of their primary residence. Second, this particular piece of the financial triangle goes back to the basics of savings, being able to accumulate enough cash reserves to cover living expenses between 6 to 12 months in case of downturn markets and/or emergencies. Third, it is critical to invest, and relevant to this video clip, this example involves one aspect of the real estate investment strategy.

Staying rooted in her personal home, Cherise wanted to invest into some aspect of life that really spurred her inner passions about what she knows very well and what she actually does practically every day. So, the obvious choice connecting these two variables was making sound choices regarding real estate investments. And for Cherise and Gordon, they wanted to make the kind of investment that fit their needs geographically (location, location, location), and that rendered an efficacious return (value) on their investment dollars, and that somehow, even though hard work is required to make their investment worthwhile, that they might obtain additional joy and contentment (soul prospering) about their chosen financial journey.

For the past 5 to 6 years, Cherise Selley has purchased and sold various properties in Destin, Florida. Just over two years ago, Cherise and her husband purchased a beautiful, 6BDR, 6BA Beach home located one and one-half blocks from Crystal Beach. Although this purchase was a dream come true for the Selleys, the reality that they might just float away with ease on the dream clouds of their beautiful property quickly dissipated. Tourism, short-term rentals, and real estate investments are an integral part of the Destin, Florida economy, and Cherise Selley had the foresight to see some advantages to making a short-term rental purchase in this very coveted beach town.

Make no mistakes about it. Whenever you might choose to purchase a short-term rental, it is essential to keep in mind that this type of investment is a business – a hospitality business to be more precise. The same business principles apply regarding upfront expenses, down payments, carrying costs, asset values, the need for professional property management, as well as expecting profitable returns during year 3 or 4 instead of immediately – just to mention a few business dynamics in play.

Investing in an Airbnb or short-term rental business can be quite profitable, yielding two to three times more than long-term rentals, but also, there are additional hassles about this type of business to seriously consider, especially if you choose to purchase a short-term rental property out of your current state in which you reside.

Cherise and Gordon took the plunge. So far, the investment is breaking even, though its future projections are quite optimistic, especially generating an additional stream of income down the road. This particular financial investment approach has squarely fit their needs. Nonetheless, it’s important for you to discuss wealth management with a certified financial planner, and if seeking general advice, especially regarding real estate matters, then please do not hesitate to give Cherise Selley a call, 719-337-9779 for professional advice.

None of us can make our futures work out perfectly. Yet, it is imperative to start planning for the days ahead, then followed by implementing your strategies so your journey of life might become more fulfilling for you and your loved ones.

Simply, thanks for watching!

Hint: 7 + 5 = 12

On June 23, 2012, a completely unexpected devastation happened to the beautiful community of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Waldo Canyon Fire burned approximately 29 square miles of Pike National Forest and parts of Colorado Springs, including some residential neighborhoods. There were 346 homes completely destroyed by the fiery blaze and smoke, causing extensive damage somewhere in the tune of $453.7 million dollars regarding insurance claim payouts. But beyond the statistical evidence of how a fire can leave a community to feel the dark emptiness from utter destruction, there is another side of the story that is told by Cherise Selley within this compelling video clip.

As a top Colorado Springs Realtor, who is also the Broker/Owner of Selley Group Real Estate, LLC, Cherise Selley vulnerably shares some keen insights about what it means to “stand firm” and to “remain planted” against some overwhelming challenges to your home and lifestyle, as what occurred with the Waldo Canyon Fire during the hot summer of 7 years ago.

Cherise Selley somehow mustered the courage to create a video about the progression of the fire as it rumbled over the front range mountains and started to burn the homes and legacies of those who occupied the Mountain Shadows neighborhoods. What Cherise chronicled as post-apocalyptic events unfolding before her very own eyes also described her psychological state of shock and terror that unwelcomely invaded her emotional space of safety and security.

Though an evaluation of the aftermath from the fire revealed open spaces showcasing hundreds of homes scorched to the ground and the smell of billowing smoke signaling the reality that everything was going to be radically different, as well as difficult, was no exaggeration. Yet, Cherise Selley and her husband, Gordon, decided to remain rooted within the same neighborhood that garnished so many wonderful memories of where they raised their family over the years.

For Cherise Selley, the Waldo Canyon Fire shed layers of insignificance from her soul and shined some light onto her innermost being. The fire burned away some of her material emphases, and in turn, Cherise realized that she needed to put more of an eternal mindset into practical action for her life. Simply speaking, she answered the question, “Why,” as she put new habits of creativity and faith into action.

Staying rooted helped to clear Cherise’s mind from all the negative and hopeless things that the fire tried to bring to her, as well as to the community. And instead, she started out the journey of transformation based on the bluish/green color from the Emerald Coast of Destin, Florida, which has given much peace and life to her. To combat the horrors of the fire, she thought to herself, why not counterbalance the representation of fire with the power of water? And that’s how the renovation process began on her home.

The decision to “stand firm” was rooted in her faith. And to decorate with an attitude of thanksgiving opened new layers of priority-setting and cleansing of the heart. Succinctly put, Cherise Selley deposited love into her home.

When referencing home, this process involved every room of the house with upgrades and finishes, and relative to her life, this undertaking required honest inspection and faithful change toward life-giving aspects. Cherise learned that all of us suffer from various challenges in life. And you have the choice to remain stagnant in a pool of misery, or you can do something beneficial for yourself and for others.

Some of the lessons applied to the home included to remain in the home and to reinvest in it through beautifying and to acknowledge that her empty-nest home was already a clear representation of downsizing and simplifying. In a nutshell, her home became a better place of hospitality and life. And this way of thinking also opened unforeseen doors of making additional wise real estate investments and healthy plans for her future retirement.

Within a few years after the Waldo Canyon Fire, it’s amazing how far the Mountain Shadows neighborhood has progressed. You can’t even tell that a fire had torn apart the area, except for some views of the foothills.

And regarding the choices you can make regarding the trials of life, it’s amazing how the miracles of transformational change can occur when you roll up your sleeves and put into action the new steps of belief and renewed thinking. In essence, it’s astonishing to witness how our real estate stories correlate with our real estate choices…
